LRE Theme for 2011 Focuses on New Media

The LRE Subcommittee of the Bar Foundation's PEOPLE Committee has selected "Democracy and the Digital Age of Media" as its theme for 2010-2011. The theme was introduced at the annual Legacy of Liberty Breakfast in October 2010.

The 12th Annual Law Day Essay Contest question is related to digital media, as it targets the problem of cyber-bullying in schools. The annual LRE theme will also be featured at the annual Fellows Dinner, and it is anticipated that the original Mock Trial problem for 2011 will embody the "Digital Age of Media" theme.

Since this year's LRE theme incorporates the examination of digital media, as well as First Amendment rights, members of the Media Subcommittee and the LRE Subcommittee of the PEOPLE Committee are working together to identify appropriate activities and lessons for Nebraska students. Thomas E. Keefe of Lincoln is the chair of the LRE Subcommittee, and Judge Todd Hutton of Papillion chairs the Media Subcommittee.
